Wires (by the band Athlete)

I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it.  There’s something about the depth of flow that catches me.  When he’s singing about running down corridors, automatic doors, got to get to you I can feel the fear, the panic.

The funny thing is I thought this was about a relationship, wife, girlfriend, whatever.  Tears making tracks, tears scared of the facts.  Seeing Christmas lights in your eyes brought visions of past memories to mind.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I listened to this song hundreds of times without getting it.  Then I noticed he said something about a plastic box which made no sense at all.  So I started listening closer.  It finally dawned on me this song was not about a love interest but a child.  A new norn child.  Probably a preemie.  I should have caught this earlier when he says ‘first night of your life’ but hey I was too busy enjoying it to notice!

The plastic box was the incurbator.  The Christmas lights were surrounding the incubator or in the room.  And a song that I was touched by became something more.

I love when the song transitions, I see it in your eyes, you’ll be alright.  Just a great moment of hope and love.

This song and this band are incredible.  I truly recommend you check them both out!  Now!
