The Tale of a Man

Talking starts

Amidst the sunlit stalks

As he wandered in the field

She balks at the thought

As he asked her why

His eyes would not dry

Her hand brushed his cheek

But she could not cry

He was tested

And completely invested

He could not give up

Even if God had blessed it

The tale of a man

Set in the present tense

And the life of a woman

Where nothing makes sense

The scent of a feeling

Behind a dark cloud

How can you be alone?

Standing in this billowing crowd

As they walked

And words were spoken

Gifts exchanged

A symbol, a token

The energy brief

The emotion contained

Within inches still

The miles had drained

He felt as stars passed

An unseen, unknown goal

A destination in the light

A direction for his soul

The tale of a man

Set in the present tense

And the life of a woman

Where nothing makes sense

The scent of a feeling

Behind a dark cloud

How can you be alone?

Standing in this billowing crowd
