In The Harness Of The Universe

For whomsoever came
And speaks of the holy name
To make that deadly sacrifice
One life for another

For what each one can bear
With means so meek, austere
To give a gift so precious
So timeless to discover

Faithful and faithless still
A force of nature or will
For existence and persistence
All contribute to the wonder

In the harness of the universe
A soul travels long and slow
A gentle wisp of light defined
In a sub-atomic glow
The unseen hand applies direction
A push, a destination, a flow
And the chasm swallows all it sees
Above, behind and below

The central tenet fixates
The rules of law obfuscate
The religions of man exercise
And who is left to ask just ‘why’?

Buckled down on bended knee
By force or want or need
The answer in the silent wind
Can only be implied

So weary from the long set trail
Into head wind’s endless gale
To step away or turn of back
Ne’er accomplished, ever tried
