U2: Magnificent (Edge IEM) La Plata Argentina

Listen here:

I have taken a real shine to the Edge earpiece recordings. They give a very different perspective on the songs. I was particularly curious about hearing this song as the guitar work was always special to me. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. The solo in particular caught my ear.

Hey Dirk! When you think about how much of the show is pre-recorded, choreographed, I can’t see how it wouldn’t be automated. The timing is too tight with everything for them not to do that here as well. I could be wrong but having one guy sit there and talk them into a given song seems kind of strange to me. I also have no clue if those timing cues are the same for Edge and Bono. I expect they are but does Bono need to hear ‘solo’ when Edge has a solo? Maybe. Maybe not. If they are different and the voice is the same, as we have heard, it would have to be automated.

Another excellent find, Larry! Just wondering though, is that Edge doing the countdown?

I don’t believe so. Kind of sounds automated to me and is the same countdown voice you hear on Bono’s IEM. Not impossible, just more likely some sort of program that they feed the data into and it clocks in when they need it.

Thanks for writing! I really do enjoy the focus on Edge in these. I’ll try and post a few more when time permits.
