One Engine – The Decemberists

Listen/Watch here:

I have always had a thing for this band and their music. Always different, interesting and enchanting. They have a knack for making old styles new and just being crazy creative. This particular track is from The Hunger Games soundtrack and is sure to be a popular one!

Lyrics here, more below:
One engine barely makes it away
One engine barely makes it away
Hold on
They’re breaking their bonds
Hold on
They’re breaking their bonds
One engine barely makes it away

And the martyr line
It’s a bitter pill
And the line of right
It will barely make you feel

I’d like to get you
In some kind of way
Some kind of trouble
In some kind of way
Bear down
They’ll run you aground
Bear down
They’ll run you aground
We all must suffer awhile in a way

And the martyr line
It’s a bitter pill
And the line of right
It will barely make feel
Make you feel
Barely make you feel
Make you feel

And the martyr line
It’s a bitter pill
And the line of right
It will barely make you feel
Make you feel
Barely make you feel
Make you feel

One engine
One engine
One engine
Barely makes it away

This just makes me think of someone running on empty. Barely enough energy to even try. That kind of void that we all have on certain days. And f course the martyr line. Stepping up in impossible circumstances to go even further. Knowing somewhere inside you can’t but also knowing you can’t fail. I love the feel of this. The speed of the music adds a bit of tension to what is happening.
