Wash Over Me

Take this solely imagined slight
Crumpled like wrinkles on my face
Walk to the trash
Put it in and slowly walk away

I asked you once what you thought
And the silence filled the void
Thoughtless comes to mind
As the only way to describe

The scent of pain that rose
Like my dragging carcass on the stair
Wishing the ease would come
Wash over me like the cleansing sea
On dark-soaked autumn’s night

The drizzle was cold and penetrating
Like the absence of love in my life
Secreted in regular doses
The needle slid effortless in the vein

Slicing through tendrils grabbing
Trying hard to keep me still
Too tired to struggle on forward
Too angry to ever stop trying

The scent of pain that rose
Like my dragging carcass on the stair
Wishing the ease would come
Wash over me like the cleansing sea
On dark-soaked autumn’s night
