Who – Love This Giant

Watch/Listen here:

I have always loved David Byrne’s voice. Whether solo or Talking Heads, it is so distinct, quirky and cool. Throw in St. Vincent’s crystal clear vocals and you have something special. The video is also awesome and strange and funny. A can’t lose proposition!

Lyrics here, more below:
Who be my valentine?
Who lift this heavy load?
Who share this taxi cab?
Who wants to climb aboard?

Who is an honest man?
Who is an honest man?

Who held a dying soldier?
Fall for the other time?
Carried these men and women?
Who gets lost when the sun goes down?

Who is an honest man?
Who is an honest man?

Who walks this dusty road?
Who always lose their way?
Who’s this inside of me?
Who made a big mistake?

Whose sees each constellation?
Seen in those spinning round
Carry these men and women?
Who gets lost when the sun goes down?

Who is an honest man?
Who is an honest man?

With a graceful motion she sat down slowly
Drank a cup of coffee and she’d fold her laundry
She begins to tell us all her life story
All around the table everybody’s staring

Who shouts out hallelujah?
Who’s gonna sing out loud?
Carry these men and women?
Who gets lost when the sun goes down?

Who’s getting out of here?
Who thinks they’re wide awake?
Who’s gonna be my friend?
All around the table, everybody’s staring

This is an interesting one as it is just generic enough to mean nothing or mean everything. I hope you get that. Lyrics without specificity are open to be ignored or morph into whatever meaning fits your mood. The latter is always the fun one as you can apply it unconsciously as you will.

So many questions but where are the answers. For me, today anyway, this is about that endless search for meaning. What is this life? Where do I turn for help? It’s about love and being alone. It’s about sacrifice and who lifts you up. It’s about you and me.
