Turn Back Time – The Gullwings

Listen.Watch:

This band is a force waiting to break. Coming out of Stockport, England in the middle of one of my favourite musical areas on the planet, they’re growing quite the following and this song is a great indicator of some amazing potential.

Lyrics here, more below:
Well maybe you could help me to decide
If this is wrong or right
This could be, this could be the night
For me to come back to you

Or should I stay here with my poisoned mind
Well maybe we, maybe we could turn back time
Maybe we, maybe we could be alright

You could help me, you could help me to be fine
You could help me, you could help me turn back time

There’s something inside my soul
Something that I can’t feel
Something I don’t quite know

Well I need to realise
If I should stay or cut the ties
Think today, act tomorrow

Well maybe we, maybe we could turn back time
Maybe we, maybe we could be alright

You could help me, you could help me to be fine
You could help me, you could help me turn back time,

And as I turn and see the shadows of your soul
No branches of life left to hold
And in this world what you do is what you’re told
So stand up and break the mould

Well maybe we, maybe we could turn back time
Maybe we, maybe we could be alright

You could help me, you could help me to be fine
You could help me, you could help me turn back time.

There’s so much going on here it makes my head spin. The music is haunting, dirty, raw, cloying. Makes me want roll on the floor ripping at my shirt, wanting to scream but not able to get it out. His voice, harsh and hurting, questing for answers but rasping at the knowledge that there are none to be had. And the lyrics, telling the story of a man who left a woman. Missing her but knowing it will never be. He can’t feel her heart and he knows why but keeps hiding the truth behind past emotions. She doesn’t want it and has done something to forever damage the relationship. You can almost see her spit on him. You know it’s over. And rock bottom has arrived. The final knife plunge underway.
