I Am Dust – Gary Numan

Watch/Listen:

So many have probably forgotten Gary Numan since the 80’s and his mega-hit Cars. I have never stopped listening to this incredibly gifted songster and showman. His sound has morphed over the years from electronica to a more industrial sensibility. The feeling is there. The voice pulls. You should really check more of his work out if you haven’t. His new album Splinter is out October 15, 2013. This is the first single.

Lyrics here, more below:
We were dust in a world
Of grim obsession
We wouldn’t taunt from the mouth
Like an isolation

We were pulled from our path
Of least resistance
And the songs we sang
What became of us?

We’re here waiting for you
We’re here waiting for you

We are yours
We’re waiting for you
We are yours
We’re waiting for you

We all pray for the end
For the god to take us
We were falling down
One by one

We were weak and the fear
Was all around us
The machines screamed from
Moon to sun

We’re here waiting for you
We’re here waiting for you

We are yours
We’re waiting for you
We are yours
We’re waiting for you

We are yours
We’re waiting for you
We are yours
We’re waiting for you

If anything, the subtitle of his new album Splinter, which is ‘Songs from a broken mind’ says it all. This is post-apocalyptic stuff. We have failed. We gave up. And now it is over. We are dust. Too it is a statement on society. Our failure to keep government in check. Watching our hard-gained freedoms slip away, one by one, under the guise of fear and terror. There, feel better now?
